Review Guidelines
JobScore only works if ratings are honest and fair, in both directions. These rules apply to every rating, review and reply, whether you're rating a pro, a homeowner, a sub or a supplier.
Draft for review. This document was written to match how JobScore works today and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
How ratings work
- Confirmed jobs only. You can rate someone only after a job both of you confirmed on JobScore.
- One rating per side, per job. Each of you rates the other once.
- Hidden until both rate. Neither side sees the other's rating until both have rated, or 14 days pass. That way nobody rates in reaction to the other's rating.
- 7 days to edit. You can change your rating for 7 days after posting it. Then it's locked.
- One reply. The person rated can post one public reply to each review.
- Same scale for everyone. Licensed and unlicensed pros are rated the same way, in categories that fit their work.
Good reviews are
- About this job. Timing, quality, price, communication, payment, cleanup, site access.
- Your own experience. What you saw and dealt with, not what you heard.
- Specific. “Ran two days late because of a back-ordered part, but called ahead” helps more than “bad.”
- Fair. Mention what went well as well as what didn't.
Not allowed
- Fake or conflicted ratings: rating yourself, your own business, a relative or a competitor, or logging jobs that didn't happen.
- Paid or traded ratings: offering or accepting money, discounts or favors for a rating, or swapping good ratings.
- Pressure: threatening a bad rating to get a refund, discount or extra work, or demanding that someone change a rating.
- Retaliation: rating someone low because they rated you low or reported you.
- Private information: addresses, phone numbers, financial details, health information, or details about someone's family.
- Hate, harassment and threats, including anything that targets race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, age or other protected characteristics.
- Profanity aimed at a person, crude insults or name-calling.
- Off-topic content: politics, ads, links to other businesses, or reviews of a different job.
- Accusations of crimes as fact. Describe what happened; leave legal conclusions to the courts.
Rating homeowners
Pros can rate homeowners on paying on time, clear expectations, communication and site access. Keep it about the job and how the customer handled it. Never rate a homeowner based on their home's value, neighborhood, background or any protected characteristic. Homeowner ratings are shown only to pros who are already talking with that homeowner.
Replies
Replies are public and permanent. Thank people, explain your side calmly, or say what you've changed. The same rules apply: no private details, threats or insults.
Reporting and what we do
- Anyone signed in can report a review with Report this review and a short reason.
- A JobScore staff member reviews every report. If the review breaks these rules, we hide it from profiles and scores. If it doesn't, it stays up, even if it's negative.
- We don't edit reviews. We either keep them or hide them.
- Nobody can pay to remove or change a review or a score.
- Repeated or serious violations can lead to a suspended or closed account.
