Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and JobScore for using the JobScore website and services. Please read them. By creating an account or using JobScore, you agree to them.
Draft for review. This document was written to match how JobScore works today and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
1. What JobScore is
JobScore is a platform where homeowners, contractors, subcontractors, home-service pros and suppliers find each other, request and send quotes, message, and rate each other after jobs both sides confirm. JobScore is not a contractor, does not perform or supervise any work, and is not a party to any agreement between users. Any contract for work is between the homeowner (or hiring business) and the pro.
2. Who can use it
- You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract.
- You must give accurate information and use your real name. A pro account must represent a real person or business.
- You may have one account per person or business unless we agree otherwise.
3. Your account
You're responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password safe. Tell us right away at support@usejobscore.com if you think someone else has used it. Choose whether you sign up as a homeowner or a pro carefully; it decides which features and rating categories apply to you.
4. Pros, licenses and insurance
- Pros are responsible for holding every license, permit, registration and insurance policy the law requires for the work they offer, and for following building codes and other laws. Many states, including Florida, have dollar limits and rules for what work needs a contractor license.
- Pros who mark “small jobs, no license needed” or “no license required for this trade” promise that this is true for the work they take on.
- Homeowners and hiring businesses are responsible for deciding who to hire and for checking that a pro is properly licensed and insured for their specific job. Credentials marked “self-reported” have not been checked by JobScore.
5. Verification badges
When a user sends us an ID, license, insurance certificate or bond, a JobScore staff member reviews it by hand. A “verified” badge means the document looked valid and matched the profile when we reviewed it. It is not a guarantee that the license is still active, that the insurance covers your job, or that the person will do good work. Verified insurance badges switch off on the expiration date the pro gave us. Always confirm details that matter to you, for example with your state's license lookup or the pro's insurer.
6. Quotes, jobs and payments
- Quote requests, estimates and accepted estimates on JobScore are not binding contracts unless the two of you separately agree that they are.
- JobScore does not process payments between users today. You arrange payment directly with each other.
- A “job” on JobScore records that work was agreed and, once both sides confirm, that it was finished. Only confirm a job that really happened. Logging or confirming jobs that didn't happen is not allowed.
7. Ratings and reviews
- You can rate someone only after a job you both confirmed. Ratings must reflect your own, honest experience of that job.
- A rating stays hidden from the other person until you've both rated, or 14 days pass. You can edit your rating for 7 days, then it's locked. The person rated can post one public reply.
- Ratings of pros are public. Ratings of homeowners are shown only to pros who are in a conversation with that homeowner.
- Ratings must follow our Review Guidelines. We may hide ratings that break them, after a report or on our own. We do not hide or change honest ratings because someone paid us or asked us to, and nobody can pay to change a score.
- Nothing in these terms stops you from posting honest reviews anywhere, and we will never require users to give up that right. Pros may not ask customers to sign anything that limits honest reviews.
8. Messages and files
Messages and attached files are private between the people in the conversation. Our staff may look at them only to keep the service safe and working, for example to investigate a report, prevent fraud or comply with the law. Don't send anything you're not allowed to share.
9. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post: profile details, photos, reviews, replies, messages and files. You give JobScore a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce and adapt that content as needed to run, show and promote JobScore (for example, showing your public profile and reviews in search). This license ends when the content is deleted, except for copies we must keep by law, in backups for a limited time, or reviews that remain part of another user's confirmed job history. You promise you have the right to post what you post. Project photos must be of your own work or used with permission.
10. Things you can't do
- Post fake, paid-for, retaliatory or misleading ratings, or rate yourself or a business you're connected to.
- Offer or demand money, discounts or favors to post, change or remove a rating.
- Impersonate anyone, misstate your licenses, insurance or experience, or upload documents that aren't yours or are altered.
- Harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone, including based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, familial status, age or any other protected characteristic.
- Post other people's private information, such as home addresses, phone numbers or financial details, without permission.
- Send spam, scrape the site, use bots, try to break security, or use JobScore to compete with it by copying its data.
- Use JobScore for anything illegal.
11. Fees
JobScore is free to use today. We may introduce optional paid features for pros, such as a paid plan or a fee for document verification. We'll tell you before any fee applies to you and show the price before you agree to pay. Homeowners will not be charged to search, request quotes or leave ratings.
12. Disputes between users
Disagreements about work, payment, quality or anything else are between the users involved. We may help by reviewing reported ratings, but we are not a mediator, inspector or court, and we don't decide who is right about a job.
13. Disclaimers
JobScore is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises about the quality, safety, legality or timeliness of any work, about any user, or that ratings, badges, search results or other content are accurate or complete. Ratings are the opinions of the users who wrote them, not of JobScore.
14. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, JobScore is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or business, arising from your use of JobScore or from any work, payment or interaction between users. Our total liability for any claim related to JobScore is limited to the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
15. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against JobScore because of your content, your work or your breach of these terms or the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, to the extent the law allows.
16. Ending your account
You can stop using JobScore at any time and ask us to delete your account at support@usejobscore.com. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, put others at risk, or that we're required to close by law. Ratings tied to confirmed jobs may remain on the other person's profile after your account is closed, shown without your name.
17. Disputes with JobScore
If you have a problem with JobScore, contact us first at support@usejobscore.com and we'll try to resolve it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any lawsuit about these terms or JobScore will be brought in the state or federal courts located in [County], Florida, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction.
18. Changes
We may update these terms as JobScore changes. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use JobScore after a change means you accept the new terms.
