Privacy Policy
This explains what information JobScore collects, who can see it, and the choices you have. In short: pro profiles are public, homeowner profiles are not, messages and documents are private, and we don't sell your information.
Draft for review. This document was written to match how JobScore works today and has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account: name, email, password (stored scrambled; we can't see it), and whether you're a homeowner or a pro.
- Profile: city, business name, trades, description, service area, website, phone, logo or photo, project photos, and the credentials you check.
- Verification documents: photo ID, contractor license (number and state), insurance certificate and bond, if you choose to send them.
- Activity: quote requests, estimates, jobs, ratings, reviews, replies, reports, messages and the files you attach.
- Settings: who can message you and which notifications you want.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data our hosting providers record, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps, used for security and to keep the site working.
- A login cookie that keeps you signed in. We don't use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.
Who can see what
- Pro profiles (name, business, trades, area, contact details you add, photos, badges, ratings and reviews) are public, including to people who aren't logged in and to search engines.
- Homeowner profiles are not public. A pro can see a homeowner's name and rating only once they're in a conversation, for example after the homeowner requests a quote.
- Reviews you write show your first name and last initial if you're a homeowner, or your business name if you're a pro, plus the job title and amount.
- Messages, quotes and attached files are visible only to the two people in the conversation.
- Verification documents are visible only to you and JobScore staff who review them. Other users only see the resulting badge (and, for verified licenses, the license number and state, which are public records).
- JobScore staff may access data when needed to run the service, review documents and reports, prevent fraud or abuse, or meet legal obligations.
How we use information
- To run JobScore: show profiles and search results, deliver messages and notifications, calculate scores and process verification.
- To keep it safe: prevent fake reviews, spam, fraud and abuse, and enforce our terms.
- To communicate with you: account emails, notifications you've turned on, and important changes.
- To improve JobScore, using aggregated information where possible.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information or share it for cross-site advertising. We share it only:
- With other users, as described in “Who can see what.”
- With service providers who run parts of JobScore for us under contract, currently Supabase (database, file storage and logins) and Vercel (website hosting), and an email delivery provider once added. They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
- If the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or to defend our rights.
- If JobScore is sold or merged, with the new owner, who must respect this policy.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: while your account is open.
- Verification documents: while they're needed to support your badges, and deleted within 90 days after your account is closed or a document is replaced, unless we must keep them longer for legal reasons.
- Ratings tied to confirmed jobs may stay on the other person's profile after you leave, shown without your name.
- Backups are kept for a limited time before being overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, photos and settings any time on My profile.
- Choose who can message you and which notifications you get.
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing support@usejobscore.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
- Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights under state privacy laws. Contact us to use them; we won't treat you differently for doing so.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access to private data is restricted by database rules so users can only reach what they're allowed to, and verification documents and message files are stored privately. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
JobScore is for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has signed up, tell us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
We'll update this policy as JobScore changes and tell you in the app or by email before significant changes take effect.
